1-4 August 2006 - University of Antwerp
Organizers: J. Hadermann, L. Meshi
International Advisory Committee: G. Van Tendeloo, T. Weirich, X. Zou
The X-EL 2006 school on structure determination by the combination of X-ray powder diffraction and Electron Crystallography will take place from Tuesday 1 August until Friday 4 August 2006, at the University of Antwerp, on the premisses of EMAT (Electron Microscopy for Materials Science).More details on how to reach the University of Antwerp you can find on the Venue page.
Important dates:
15 February 2006: deadline bursary application
1 June 2006: deadline registration, deadline registration payment and deadline hotel payment if reserved through X-EL2006
1-4 August 2006: X-EL 2006
The X-EL 2006 school is addressed to young scientists searching to acquire knowledge on the usefulness and practical application of both X-ray diffraction and transmission electron microscopy for determining and refining the structure of materials.
The program can be found on the separate Program page.
To register, please fill out the registration form and fax it to:+32 3265 3257.
The registration fee is 500 Euros for regular participants and 200 for students. Students must provide a written statement from their professor or University as proof. The registration fee does not include the accommodation, which should be arranged separately.

The option to reserve your hotel through X-EL 2006 has now been closed. Participants are asked to make their own reservations. If you wish to be in the same hotel as the lecturers and as those participants who already reserved a room through X-EL2006, the hotel to be in is Hotel Florida. If you mention that you come for the X-EL 2006 school from the University of Antwerp, you will get a 10% discount at this hotel.
If you choose another hotel, it is best in the neighbourhood of the Central Station, since there are several lines of public transport available there going to the right University Campus (Campus Groenenborger). The Central Station is also very near to the old city centre, which gives you the chance to easily visit Antwerp. More information on the busses and how to reach the campus will be put on this website shortly.
Belgium is part of the European Union. Many visitors can enter EU countries without a visa (Schengen countries). Congress delegates who require a visa can readily obtain it from the Belgian Embassy in their home country.
A formal letter of invitation will be provided on request from the organizer
of the ECM-23 congress.
It is understood that such an invitation is intended to help potential delegates
to raise funds or to obtain a visa. This does not imply a commitment from the
congress organisers to provide any financial support.
The Organizers of the X-EL 2006 School on structure determination by the combination of X-ray powder diffraction and Electron Crystallography shall observe the basic policy of non-discrimination and affirms the right and freedom of scientists to associate in international scientific activity without regard to such factors as citizenship, religion, creed, political stance, ethnic origin, race, colour, language, age or sex, in accordance with the Statutes of the International Council for Science. At this school no barriers will exist which would prevent the participation of bona fide scientists.
